Ms. Sonja Prišćan, the president of Web Evaluation Committee: The results will be better if the informatics expert and the artistic soul are two people

How many works were registered for the Web festival ?

55 works during the period from July 1. to September 10.

Who are the members of the jury ?

Art critic Sandra Križić, who was a member of the jury for the best web contest during the Salon of young artists;
Branimir Makanec, progenitor of the computer usage in the education of school children in Croatia; Joško Marušić, who can certainly contribute a lot with his authority and experience in the work of comitees at the Cartoon festival, and also help evaluating graphic designs of webs in the competition;
Dubravko Penezić from CARNet, a person with great technical experience in web making and maintenance;
Maja Šmit , the Ministry of science , technology and informatics, a person with great experience in presenting the contents and information on web pages;
Jasna Tingle the leader of educational projects in CARNet;
Vesna Vlahović-Štetić, psychologist and methodologyst on the Psychology department at the Faculty of Philosophy;
Student Saša Žugaj, the representative of the Student Association.

What were the criteria for selecting the pages?

The condition for entering the competition was to have a web focused on education, or the one that contains one or more of the following subjects: -web pages that teach certain subjects connected to a certain area of human activity -web pages of schools and faculties if they contain educational material -digital textbooks -additional materials on network that are used as a help for standard material (presentations, exercises, simulations) -vocabularies, lexicons, encyclopedias -scientific, popular-scientific and specialized magazines.

Best three webs will be chosen from the competition according to the following criteria:
- interactivity and possibility of feedback
- capacity of contents
- quality of contents from user's point of view
- quality of navigation
- design
- technical realization
- references to similar issues in Croatia and all over the world
- style and language

Is there a similar festival in Croatia, or somewhere else in the world? Have you ever been to such a festival, and how would you compare it with CUC Web festival ?

As far as I know, a similar web competition took place during the Salon of young artists. I can not compare it with CUC because I have never attended it. There are probably many similar festivals in the world, but I will mention two of them of which I heard of: Golden Drum, Advertising Festival of the New Europe, Portorož and Lions, World Festival Promotion Altavista enlisted 209 entries on query "web festival".

In your opinion,what is more important for designing a Web page - the knowledge of informatics, or an artistic soul? Is it possible to put them together?

Basically, one can not exist without the other. Web pages tend to be better if more than one person creates them. So I think that the results will be better if the informatics expert and the artistic soul are two people. I think that most important things for creating a web page are not only the idea, design and contents, but also the informatics expert who will actualize them. For creation of educational web pages there is less and less need for knowledge of informatics. Today, there are many tools that make life easier for the creators of web pages .These tools open some new perspectives for teaching over Internet, because they are produced by people who have a lot of experience in that field. For creation of such pages a lot more work is necessary in the field of the teaching process realization. We should establish a way of communication between users, together with the user-mentor communication. Also, we should find a way to motivate the learners, to bring about the social component and to inspire discussions. Also, we should work on learners' duties and on finding the best way to check their knowledge. I think there are two main problems. One is that people don't understand what it is and the second is if they want to use it ; they don't usually know how to do it. There is lack of education, lack of ability. I think both of them will disappear because young people learn very quickly, and most of them do know how to use the Internet.
